How To Have A Successful Email Marketing Campaign

How To Have A Successful Email Marketing Campaign

It may be the era of social media, but successful email campaigns still lead to more sales than any other marketing initiative. To learn how to run a successful email marketing campaign, it helps first to learn what it is.

At its root an email campaign is when a business sends you emails about their service and offerings.

Email is a great passive way to interact and build rapport with an audience. An excellent form of communication as it builds a direct line of communication between the business and the consumer.

There are no distractions like on social media or paid advertisement. Providing an excellent opportunity as the consumer is solely focused on what you have to say.

If the content provided by the business is consistently engaging, the consumer will be more apt to open the emails. More opens of course will lead to a higher chance of converting a sale.

The Importance Of An Email Marketing Campaign

Once you understand how to run an email marketing campaign you can be successful in every niche. Email marketing should be a critical part of your overall sales and marketing strategy.

Email marketing is possibly the only marketing channel that allows you full control over when, and how often you communicate with your audience. You do not need to worry about any algorithm changes or fluctuations that may cause less engagement with your audience.

You alone control the time, message, and volume of interaction. By following a few tactics, you can build and keep a list of engaged email subscribers.

Build Trust And Value With Education

The first lesson you learn in sales is that consumers buy from who they trust. One of the best ways to first build that trust is by providing value through educational emails. Nurturing the relationship with your subscribers and establishing a rapport with them, not just a barrage of sales pitches.

Also, when you learn how to run an email marketing campaign with this process you are establishing credibility and expertise with your audience. In addition, you can provide value by offering lead magnets or access to resources that they would benefit from.

Building trust and rapport with your subscribers in this manner helps to build a bridge of trust. This will allow you to “thoughtfully” offer your products or services by interjecting an occasional pitch in your emails.

Everybody likes to buy, but nobody likes to be sold. If your emails are only promotions, you cannot build the relationship needed to have a successful email campaign.

Where email marketing is especially valuable is in the launch of a new product or service. Announcements can get lost in all the noise that comes with social media. An announcement delivered by email is the perfect way to make sure that they don’t miss the news.

How To Launch An Email Marketing Campaign

Now with an understanding of how important building rapport is, let’s learn how to start an email marketing campaign.

The simplest way to get started is by following three easy steps.

Step 1: Focus On Increasing Traffic To Your Website And Social Media Content

The first step to creating and growing an email list is increasing your traffic by targeting your specific niche. You will see the best results the more you can micro-niche your subject. The less specific you are with the audience consuming your content, the slower and more challenging it will be to build your email list.

Some things you can do to improve traffic would be:

  • Follow SEO Best Practices When Creating Content
  • Consistent Posting On Social Media And Blog Articles On Your Website
  • Guest Blogging
  • Partner With Influencers In Your Niche
  • Comment On Blog Articles In Your Niche

The sooner you can start building your email list the quicker you’ll find success. Investing time into building an email list should be one of the first priorities you undertake.

Step 2: Motivate People To Sign Up For Your Email List

As you begin growing your audience your best to entice them into joining by creating a dedicated landing page with a lead magnet or an email opt-in form.

If you are going to have a lead magnet you need to create content that tactically matches what you are offering. This should be related to your specific niche and something that provides value to your audience.

Step 3: Begin An Email Sequence With Your New Subscribers

When your readers become email subscribers, they’ll become a part of your (hopefully) growing subscriber list. They should initially be receiving an email welcoming them to your email list along with a lead magnet if you chose to offer one.

Now you begin the sequence of delivering content that provides value and education about your niche. Personal stories are always a great way to approach this. It helps implant you as an expert in the field and also helps your reader relate by letting them get to know you.

Client testimonials are also a powerful tool to use when providing content in an email. It helps deliver great insight on your product and service by someone who has used it.

Also, self-selection is always a great option if it’s applicable to your business. This is great as it allows you to only send relevant content that the subscriber has already told you they want to learn about. This is micro-niching at its finest!

Email Is The Most Cost-Effective Way To Grow Your Audience

When you run a business, you need to be focused on the bottom line. Having fewer expenses will equal larger profits!

Emailing helps automate several processes and tasks that tend to be repetitive. Building a list and learning how to operate a successful email campaign allows you to sell your services or products on autopilot.

Measure The Growth And Performance Of Your Email Marketing Campaign

If you examine your last lead or sale, can you clearly state where that journey began?  Without this valuable information you are unable to improve your marketing efforts. Often, your business will miss many opportunities by not identifying qualified leads, and fruitless spending in marketing verticals that will see no return.

With email marketing you have accurate time-tested tools to measure growth, and most importantly performance. By examining email open, click, and conversion rates you can monitor how well your campaign is performing. With this information you are able to calculate an enhanced marketing plan that will be optimized for increased engagement from your audience and of course, more sales.

Remain Personable While Automating Your Campaign

Automation tools are a powerful asset to a business when utilized properly. Automating your email marketing campaign allows you freedom to focus your energy on other aspects of your business.

You can effortlessly interact and provide valuable content to your audience. Simply set up your sequences and funnels one time, and your done!

You Want A High ROI (Return On Investment), Then Start Email Marketing

As a small business owner, you are required to fill multiple roles and just getting through the “high priority” list each day is a challenge. The reality however, is items that directly bring in more sales and revenue need to be prioritized to be at the top of your list.

Email marketing is the top dog in regard to increasing your ROI and driving more sales. For every $1 spent on email marketing, companies across all niches see a $38 average ROI.

That’s an impressive return on investment!

Hi Lee, I totally enjoyed this post on email marketing. I like where you say that companies should prioritize those activities that bring in more sales. This is something that most entrepreneurs, especially new bloggers fail to do, because it is so easy to get overwhelmed with every little thing you have to do for y our business.

I have tried both convertkit and getresponse in the past. I actually started out with getresponse but I used this service such a long time ago (early 2000s) and I am sure they must have evolved by now. If you had to go with one over the other, which would you choose today?

Again, thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next post!

Thanks for commenting and the I sincerely appreciate the compliments on the article.
In regards to your question that’s tough, GetRespnse has the social media aspect which I think is extremely important right now. But there is a cost factor involved with running social media ads, and if you are starting out the odds are that your ads won’t be effective and you probably have a limited budget. For that reason in regard to budget I would go with ConvertKit again.
      Great question!

Hey, mate! I found this article extremely useful. I just started an email marketing campaign for the first time so I’m still learning. I think I’m doing well so far, but there’s always room for improvement. I’ll go over my autoresponder to make sure my emails are helping instead of selling. By the way, I’m using GetResponse. In what areas would you say that ConvertKit is better or worse than GT?

Thanks for reading and I am glad this article about email marketing was beneficial to you, after all that’s why I do it!
Funny thing but I’m actually crafting some article that compare the different softwares. To answer your question now, it really depends on what your business or goals are. But to give an easy answer GetResponse is better if you are posting on social media and CovertKit has a better free trial/startup option that is preferred if you are just starting.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!
