Gainful Protein Powder: Read Before You Buy

Gainful Protein Powder: Read Before You Buy

I learned about Gainful from an ad that was on the web. I consume protein powder at least once a day. Either add it to my oatmeal in the morning or have it for a shake.

If your looking for the best supplements for muscle growth you will enjoy this article.

I didn’t buy anything after initially clicking on the ad. First I Googled Gainful protein powder reviews to see what others were saying. Which is a habit I have before buying any product and perhaps that’s how you found this article.

The concept of a personalized protein that was formulated for me specifically, I thought was a great idea. Luckily, many years ago I was able to get a free blood lab test to better understand my body. It was newer concept then, as in availability to the general public, but it is much more affordable to have done now.

You can find companies like 3natural Bionutrition and several others that offer this service now at affordable rates.

I was able to take this result and have a dietitian help me design a better diet because of the results of my blood test. This helped me perform better and have a better understanding of my health and fitness. After reading a couple of Gainful protein powder reviews before I purchased it, I felt I should share my experience here as well.

I’ll walk you through the ordering process, price comparison versus other quality brands, and what I don’t like about Gainful.

How To Get Started With Gainful

After visiting their website you’ll need to complete a personal survey. It was a fairly simple survey that only took me few moments.

Below is the survey you need to complete.

  • You need to first choose your gender.
  • Your height and weight (don’t forget the goal weight)
  • How many times a week do you exercise?
  • What type of exercises do you do? ( You can make multiple selections)
  • Have you ever used protein powder before?
  • Why do you want to take protein powder? ( You can make multiple selections)
  • How often do you plan on having protein powder?
  • On average, how many meals do you eat each day?
  • Do you have any dietary restrictions?
  • On average, how many hours of sleep do you get per night?
  • Choose your current and goal body type.
  • What’s your date of birth?
  • When will you take protein powder?

After you submit your survey they require your name and email to view your personalized blend. Once I submitted my details I waited a little bit as my blend was calculated. Once complete, my blend was available based on my survey answers.

Here is the nutritional information for my personalized blend.

Once I’d viewed my personal blend I needed to confirm my plan. Gainful sells their products on a subscription model. On my plan I receive a shipment every four weeks.

You can change your plan, pause, or cancel anytime.

Once your plan and blend is confirmed you need to select your flavors. Gainful protein comes unflavored but they ship flavor sticks to mix into your protein.

They have 9 options to choose from.

Cookies & Cream, Cinnamon Bun, Chocolate Fudge, Sea Salt Caramel, Banana Split, Green Tea Matcha, Peanut Butter Cup, and Caffe Mocha.

There is also a mystery flavor option, I have not ordered that so I can’t tell you what to expect.

What I noticed in some of the gainful protein powder reviews I read was a few negatives in regards to flavor. So far I’ve tried cookies & cream, Banana Split, Peanut Butter Cup, and Green Tea Matcha. Usually I add a complimentary fruit as well, but I think they all taste great.

The Matcha may be a required taste I will admit, my wife was not a big fan!

The next step is going to be add-ons.

It is really just an up-sell on their part. It will be a shaker bottle or some other additional items.

You can just skip over this part unless you wish to purchase some. My wife complains as it is because of how many bottles I have taking up space, I definitely didn’t need to order anymore.

The final step will be checkout.

This is a standard process no different than online shopping with most companies. They will confirm your order and first delivery date.

Mine was four days but I assume that could be different for you depending on your location. You’ll also be informed  of your delivery schedule based on your plan, mine is every four weeks.

Lastly, which I feel is good transparency for a business they’ll remind you that you can pause, cancel, or change your subscription for free.

I couldn’t find one instance of this being difficult to do in any of the Gainful protein powder reviews I read.

That’s It!

In a few days you’ll have your first order of Gainful.

How Does The Price Compare To Other Quality Brands?

I paid $49 for my first order of Gainful. That is $1.75 a serving which is exactly what they advertise on their site, a little less if you consider its free shipping.

I chose to highlight the price comparison versus five other brands. These brands consistently show up on top rated lists as high quality products.

Depending on where you go to order these other protein powders the price can obviously fluctuate of course. I provided links for Best Price Nutrition which I’ve found to have great prices that often beat Amazon. You can also view the resource page here for more options.

If you buy it online are you paying shipping, unlike the free shipping you get from Gainful?

Possibly you are just stopping at a retail store near you and buying it off the shelf.

What You Should Be Aware Of

One thing that you need to consider is the subscription model. You are not just buying one bottle or package at a time. You will receive an order of Gainful and be billed on a recurring schedule.

I personally don’t mind this, I find it convenient and enjoy having a product delivered to my home. It gives me one less thing to shop for or keep track of.

Others I know don’t, they want to buy their products as needed and don’t want to add another regular bill. I view it as I’m paying for it anyways, this way keeps it consistent and saves me time.

This is a personal consumer choice you’ll have to make on your own. If you are hesitant on the recurring payments you can select one of the protein powder options I linked above. Those are high quality proteins that you can order individually as you need them.

The Other Big Question For Me

How accurate can the survey really be?

I opened this article telling you about a blood lab test I took which luckily I got for free, but costs hundreds of dollars. Can this protein be really that specific of a formula designed just for me?

On that level no, of course not. What I do feel however is the blend can be customized to my activity level and supplementation needs.

Last But Not Least

I have not had a personal issue with it but from what I read Gainful does not accept returns or refunds on their products. If you receive your first order and are not satisfied it is important you cancel your subscription immediately to avoid anymore charges.

If you want a convenient, high quality protein that is personalized for you(even has your name on the bag) delivered to your home then Gainful is worth a try.

Have any of you tried Gainful?

What was your experience with flavor, product quality, and service?

  2. Hi Lee,

I had never before heard about a protein powder that is customized for your needs. It is an interesting product and they really make it easy for you as they customize the blend for you and offer free shipping on subscription basis.

Do you know how they actually customize the blend? Looks like your blend consists of whey protein and green tea. Maybe they can also add some other ingredients based on your answers?

    1. Thanks Joonas, the quality is good but the convenience of the auto ship subscription is what really sold me.
You also have access to talk with a dietitian as part of your subscription which is a great value.
I haven’t taken advantage of this part of the subscription so I didn’t write much about.
Sometime later when I do I’ll come back and update this review.

I regards to how the customize your blend, you fill out a questionnaire.
It will break down your specifics, your goals, and food restrictions.

If you purchase some please come back and let us know what you think.

  3. Hi Lee, I love the concept of Gainful Protein Powders. It’s different and a good way to get what you need rather than just buying any old protein powder off the shelf.

Not long ago I studied for a post about protein powders and discovered that they are most definitely not all created equal. Some are specifically designed for weight loss, weight gain or muscle gain, with higher and lower fats, calories, and fiber depending on your specific needs, even your specific exercise of choice. That’s why this protein powder is great, and probably the only one of it’s kind out there at the moment.

As I am a plant based eater I would like to know if they do plant based protein powders too? Thanks

    1. Stefanie,
I love the concept as well.
High quality protein, and I enjoy the convenience of the auto ship each month.

Yes, not all proteins are the same.
A fitness center I worked at for awhile I believe had about 20-30 different types in the shop for example.
There is a lot out variety available on the market.

As far as plant based, when you go through the selection survey to build your personalized protein you’ll get some options.
I know pea protein and organic brown rice protein are available.
I believe there may be more options, but I’m not positive.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.

  4. Great analysis and shopping guide to finding the perfect protein for you and your goals. Anytime you have the opportunity to get a product formulated specifically for your needs it’s best to take advantage of it. Great breakdown on protein supplements and how to incorporate them into your lifestyle.
